Bretagne: La Presq'uile Crozon et Le Dossen

I have been to Bretagne now three times. Once in early spring (March 2002), once just before winter (November 2002) and last time in March 2006.

The best waverides were without any doubt on Goulien Plage (Crozon Peninsula), up to six cutbacks on one wave!!! Goulien works in southerly winds. I had the pleasure of sailing here in swell up to a massive 4 metres high! Close to Goulien and more exposed to the waves is La Palue... not for sissies!

Also near Crozon: La Torche, Audierne, Douarnenez, Brest, Les Sables Blancs...

Best place I found for SW to W winds is Dossen (near Roscoff). This spot offers few different possibilities:

bulletLeftside: powerfull waves for fast rides! Crappy wind...
bulletRightside: easier waves and steady winds. good for jumping.
bulletDead -flat speedstrip in East-winds!

The best time of the year to go to Bretagne for the waves and wind is the wintertime. Quite frequently the temperatures rise above 10 degrees Celsius, while in Holland temperatures don't rise above 5 degrees Celsius!

Waves are created and brought by low pressure systems over the central Atlantic. I found out the part of Bretagne close to and north of Brest has best chance for wind in the winter.

Equipment to take with you to Bretagne, depending on length of stay and forecast, but generally speaking your wavetoys with sails ranging from 4,5 up to 6 square metres. Also surfboard offers a lot of fun on windless days.

In summertime or with really bad wind forecast, a freestyle board or formulaset, or maybe even kite-stuff, can offer all the fun you are looking for!

There are several places to stay, depending on time of the year and your budget. In Saint Hernot (Crozon) I found a hostel with all the neccessary things.
