Spotreview

I windsurfed following spots: Sunset Beach, Kite Beach (Tableview), Big Bay, Melkbos, Yzerfontein and Langebaan. Conditions were all very different, but there was allways sideshore to cross-offshore wind!

I sailed Sunset both on flat days and 3 metre close-out days... but most of the time using my 5,8 sail.

Big Bay is good for jumping, but only outside rush hours as it tends to get very busy! The wave is a bit slow for waveriding...

Melkbos can be busy too but with a long stretch of beach it allows much more wavesailors. I experienced Melkbos in variable conditions. I prefer the waves on the left side with stronger winds (still clean), but in light winds the right side allows waverides up to about 8 turns... just awesome!!!

Once, I had the pleasure trying Yzerfontein with 5,8 and my 96 litres board. The waves were perfectly grouped in recognizable sets and allowed long rides. The left side had gusty wind and close-out waves, the right side had the best waveride potential!

Langebaan is nice for freestyle and freeride after a few days without wind in Capetown...

Furthermore, I drove around to see the more brutal spots on the south side of Capetown and saw awesome conditions on Cape Point/Platboom (up to 4 metre walls!). Scarborough and Kommetje showed me some big lefthand waves. There were lots of surfers and bodyboarders there, probably inside a great white's stomach now...

Equipment

I took a big pile of equipment with me, to make sure I wouldn't miss any action. And I didn't: 25 sessions in one month!!! Following material allows me to sail from 4 up to 8 Beaufort:

Boards:

JP Wave 96 liters (2002)

F2 Maui Project Wave 87 liters (2001)

Sails:

North Sails Triple X 5,8

Neil Pryde Zone 5,3

North Sails Instinct 5,0

North Sails DrX 4,4

And a few 100% masts and booms

Local wildlife

Around Cape Town there is plenty of wildlife to see: baboons (bobbejaanen), austriches, tortoises, seals, sand sharks, penguins, etc...

False Bay is notorious for its inhabitants! The great white sharks are attracted for the tourists with parts of Tuna fish. Sometimes they are only 100 metres away from the beach... where people are bathing...

great white are fed to attract tourists...no, you can't eat this boat...nor the engine...clever fella swims away!
