Capetown 2005 - 2006

From december 11th 2005 till january 14th 2006 I was in Cape Town again.

Like the first time it was excellent!

Windsurf, beautifull beaches, Table Mountain, wildlife, relative low cost of life, good food, relaxing and superb going out!

31 windsurf sessions in 35 days is pretty good...

The accomodation was very satisfactory, with pool, pool table, jaccuzzi, tv good kitchen, etc..

Other people in the guesthouse were also very OK.

The car was OK for a good price.

Spotreview

I windsurfed following spots: Sunset Beach, Kite Beach (Tableview), Big Bay, Melkbos, Yzerfontein and Capepoint. Conditions varied from flat to 4m close-out waves. The wind varied from 5.8 wind up to storm!

This time i was very lucky that Yzerfontein worked really good a few times! Armed with 5,8 and my 96 litres board, but also with 5,0 on my small 87 litres board i claimed some long high speed waverides on beautiful pealing walls. The time of my life!

Also worth mentioning is my first time sailing on the Cape Point! Together with Julia, Arnoud and Nikaj i enjoyed a sail at this magic place. The waves were low, messy and unpredictable and the wind relatively light, but it was still so nice.

I missed out a few sessions at better waves like Swartriet, Scarborough, Elands and Haakgat, but that is for my next stay...

I'm not much of a jumper, so i have to enjoy beautifull waves even more in the future.

Haakgat, Big Bay and Elands Bay suffer from crowds on good and less good days... Before Christmas and after about the 15th januari most spots a not very crowded and all there to enjoy! Still, spots like Big Bay and Elands Bay might better be avoided during weekends as the actual sailing spot is small.

Local wildlife

This time i went to a safari park called Aguila (2 and 1/2 hour drive east) and saw lions, girafs, rhinos, hippos, wildebeeste, elands and austriches.

At the Cape Point i met the baboons again and also saw geckos.

At Boulders Beach i saw only two penguins... they were not really cooperating in a commercial way...

At IJzerfontein there were whales hunting for a shoal of fish, making bubbles and spraying! It was beautifull and i saw them from about 20m close.

On the slopes and top of the Table Mountain there is also an abundance of wildlife to find.

Because of the rich filled sea so close and all the animals on land the food in Capetown is excellent! Tasty steaks, lobster, crayfish, tuna, prawns and much more...
