From 24th juli till 6th august I was at Fuerteventura again, accompanied by my girlfriend Kim. We stayed at Birgitte's place in La Pared.
I competed in the ISA Speed event at Sotavento for the second time. This year it was one full fleet, allowing everyone to do more sailing. The downside was the occasional crowds and stalling at the start. Anyway, I improved my 500m every day a bit: 32.5 - 32.8 - 33.5 - 34.5 - 35.2 knots. With the F2 SX91 I did a 34.5 knots 500m with the 6.7qm RS6 and a Select SO7 32cm Speedfin, the 35.2 knots was with the Falcon Speed and a Tectonics 28cm Goldwing fin. I feel I am close to the limit with the F2 SX91 and the Select SO7 fin in the hardcore Sotavento conditions.
I sailed 5 of the 6 heats and ended 36th, 43rd, 40th, 28th, DNC (57th) and 33rd. For heat 5 (DNC) I got a discard, because we sailed more than 3 heats. Besides competing in the speed event we went around the island.
I surfed at La Pared in very good waves during the warm calima-days.
For an adventurous trip we took the dirtroad to the mystical beach of El Cofete (near the SW end of the island) and enjoyed the day at the beautifull and deserted beach.
At the last day we went on a road trip trough the mountains on the middle of the island and ended in Corralejo (North shore). We also visited my friend Peter in Lajares (www.naturalsurfcamp.com) who changed his formula... less is more for Peter now.
