Sessions

September 2011

Voorjaar 2011 (t/m juni)

April 2010
In april heb ik mijn eigen SUP aangeschaft: Fanatic Fly 10.6 HRS. Het SUP-pen bevalt me prima!

January 2010
Happy new year!
Also for me with a very nice new lightwind wavesail. NP Excess 5.9qm will be the ideal combi with the Fanatic Freewave 95 (with 3-fins).
The colour fits my coat very well... The first session with the sail at 29th was promising at Slufter with side-on wind. The sail feels powerfull. The trifin setup didn't work that well yet but it was only the first time. Can try some other finlengths.

2010 NP Excess 5.9qm

November & december 2009
Holland was very lucky to have very mild and windy start of the winter season.
I enjoyed many wave sailing sessions at Ouddorp sandbar with friends and also a few speed sessions. Wavesailing is so much more satisfactory.
27th December was my last '09 session at Ouddorp with 5qm sail.
In the end I count 109 sessions in 2009, very nice. Hope for 2010 to be equally good!

October 2009
After returning to Holland I was lucky with many good sessions. While the lights go out earlier and earlier the sessions get shorter but great!
3rd October a Fun Speed Meeting was organised with Eurofuncenter. We had very strong wind up to 45 knots at Oostvoorne being too much for most people.

My speeds on the JP Speed 54 keep improving now almost have an average of 70km/h using a 7 sqm sail.

Also surfing has been great at Slufter beach in good quality north swells. Pitty my surfboard project isn't ready yet, need a board that turns better.

September 2009
September I spent in UK for work. Luckily I was able to take my equipment with me. In 4 weeks I windsurfed a few time and surfed every week few times. It was great! NE-UK has superb waves!

August 2009
After the Normandy trip I had 7 more sessions in August mostly speeding. At 14th August I was second in Holland to receive the JP Speed 54 2010 model. So far I have been testing it with different fins to find the sweet spot(s). The board is promising so far as I already past 70km/h at my gusty homespot Oostvoorne sailing the board for the third time! I like!!!

August 2009 Normandy trip
What a good holidaytrip to Normandy! We went to Siouville for 4 days. Every day I could do a surf session and tuesday also a superb lowwind waveriding session at nearby beach of Sciotot (south of Flamanville). There were mellow waves ranging from 1 till 2 m height and over 100m long! Easily up to 4 turns on one wave and even riding on at an unbroken section after a low airial.... supersweet. I used the Fanatic Freewave 95 in combination with the Search 5.4qm.

Unfortunatelly hurt my foot with stepping at a stone, so need to keep some rest now...

July 2009
Superb SW wind again with up to 5 sessions a week!

Great wave sessions at Ouddorp with my friends, combined with nice speed sessions.

At Ouddorp I sailed my self-improved trifin again and it was very sweet on the waves, too bad I was sailing overpowered with 4.5... The waves were up to 3m and rides of up to 6 or 7 turns, lovely!

At Zonnemaire I was fast again after more then a year of poor speeds. It felt great! The trim and control were there.

June 2009
North wind and east wind, nice sailing at Kwade Plaat in light wind!

Mai 2009
A bit of everything, except the real stuff... lot of sailing on the big boards.

April 2009
April started with not too much wind when I had the time...

The 8th I tried my MP trifin waveboard again in sideoff microwaves at Slufter. It sails skatestyle, so I can't wait to try the board in good waves!
Gruissan was a fun speedsurf event with Belgians, Dutchies and many Germans this time. It was good fun sailing two days in 7Bft offshore winds.
Unfortunately during the race I chose the wrong setup in heat 1 slowing myself down bigtime... 5.4 sail, smaller fin and closer to the beach was the trick, but I was flying over chop with a 6.2 sail opening in every big gust.
It is nice to getting more and more to ideal setup with my two big JP Slalom IV boards 104 and 114.

March 2009
A lot better then february: few times Oostvoornse Meer, Herkingen and Blokken for wave, also went to Amstelmeer.

Tuesday morning 24th Blokkendam, Maasvlakte: time for an early waveriding session with my self-modified waveboard MP. There were nice waves at low tide and sideshore Northern wind force 6. The board is a tripple fin and gives lot of drive and grip when riding waves.
Few days after I broke my personal spot record at Oostvoornse Meer doing a 70km/h peak and 65.5km/h 10-second average.

February 2009
Very cold and without much wind...

January 2009
3 sessions: First time ever at The Brace! What an experience: we walked out between the ice onto the Wadden sandbanks towards the spot. It was flat, but I wasn't in control so speeds were too low. Second and third time was at Brouwersdam. Good fun with offshore winds and flattish strip to accelerate.

December 2008
After lot of hard work and a rough time, my wife and me went to Capetown for a relaxing holiday!

October 2008
October started with a treat: 4th at The Ooster: 4-5m waves from NW-stormswell and medium SSW-er made it great for waveriding! I sailed the Freewave 95 with 5.4 and it worked great.
October 10th I went to Texel for the first time and sailed with Hub, Peter V, Lampie and the Rijselberge bros. It was good fun.
Then back to work in the Middle East.

September 2008
Finally back in Holland and at the beach... but then the wind went on holiday.
By the end of september we were so fed up, that Arnoud, Hub, Bet and myself went to Klitmoeller Denmark for wavesailing! It was a superb wavesailing weekend with good conditions!

August 2008
Abroad for work, no sailing, no sport... It was pretty frustrating to read about my mates having great speed and wave sessions in Holland!
But interesting work made up a lot.

July 2008
At july 7th I had my best wavesailing session since Capetown 2006!
Long waves with power and nice wind for 4.5qm Combat. Hub was there too and showing off his waveriding and airial skills.
In the following weeks I had more nice wave and fun sessions untill 19th.

June 2008
After light winds in may, june offered better winds!

It started with northerly winds at Blokken. First day peddle surfing on little swell offering long rides! Next evening the wind kicked in for some nice wavesailing.
A week later wind turned to southwest and I had a nice session at Vuurtoren: strong wind for 5.0 sail on the FW86.
I really like my Freewave 86, it planes early and with some different fins it has a huge range! Thanks Hub for letting me try your fins.

After Ouddorp Vuurtoren I went for a session at Grevelingen with fast Hans. I did speeds over 70km/h again after long time!

June ended with a few sessions at Oostvoornse Lake and saturday 28th we did the second Eurofun FSM. The FSM was blessed with strong southwesterly wind. Also the FSM was my 50th session this year!

May 2008
May started for many Dutch speedsailors and for me with the Dutch Speed Championships at Strand Horst.
Horst is known for its gusty winds in combination with very flat water, but this time the water was not so flat.
In my opinion this had nothing to do with speedsurfing, more with bump and jump.

Hope for some good conditions for the next race. After my marriage and honeymoon () there were few light wind sessions at Oostvoorne and Ouddorp Haven.

24th we did the first Eurofun FunSpeedMeeting. It was a great succes, all competitors and organizer seems to enjoy!

April 2008
Few surf sessions at Blokken were very nice. See photos...

March 2008
From 20th-28th I went to Gruissan together with Pieter Bartlema, Hans and Robert Kreisel. We sailed the NSWO/Belgian Speedweek and were very succesfull. In heat 1 I ended 2nd behind Ben, a great result and in heat 2 I ended 6th although I wasn't sailing to well for my feeling.

Afterall I ended 4th in the event and am very satisfied with it. See also photos...

February 2008
Dutch cold. Had a very windy session at Slufter with 4.5 Combat on the FW86: very nice!

January 2008
Quite nice! Already 10 sessions. Many days on the Falcon Speed at Haringvliet, Herkingen and a new place I went out checking.

19th I picked up my new boards at Eurofun. Nice!!!

The Falcon 79 is great and works well with the Caspar 27 fin, even with 6.7qm, other fins still to be tested. The 20th I sailed at both Herkingen and Zonnemaire using Falcon Speed and Slalom 79. Topspeed was 77km/h at Herkingen, very nice but still no 80km/h... Some nice averages too.

As all my wave mates are back from Capetown, we can go waveriding again.

November / December 2007
November was not excellent either. But towards december it's getting better with the wind!

The best thing however is that we move towards the sea (Oostvoorne), so that means more sessions in the future.

The temperatures got worse every day, but on december 30th it changed as I finally bought a new wintersuit. As we were moving I went for one or two sessions as it was blowing.

At the last day of the year I could sell my Freeave 96 that I enjoyed for a long time! I had sailed it the day before at Maasvlakte Slufter.

Oktober 2007
Not much happened in October... I sailed a few times. One time at Wijk aan Zee in good waves, but the wind was such crap that it hurt.

At the beginning of November the weather forecast looks better!

September 2007
Walvis Bay was excellent! Read the full story.
And once back in Holland I had two really nice wave sessions with my mates Arnoud and Hub at Maasvlakte, first with S-wind and one week later with NE-wind and nice waves. I had to sail with 5,4 sail every time as I am still figuring out what 5,0 sail to buy back... Combat or Alpha...

Halfway september I went back to a job after two months of relaxing.

August 2007
After the Fuerteventura adventure, I came back to the Netherlands and had a few sessions during the weeks, while most people had to work...
The sandbar by Ouddorp worked quite well at the 15th: little SW swell and nice SSW-wind for a 5.0qm Search. Hub landed a wave360 which inspired me to try them too, but I didn't land one yet...
22nd August was Blokkendam excellence with good N-swell and NE-winds! Although the wind was very gusty and slow-starter the waves were sooooo good! One could do real surfing on the waves and hit the lips really good. Because we Dutchies are not used to wind from the right it took me some time to get it right, but at the end of the morning I landed an airial... yeah! See also pics...

25th August I collected my large board (F2 SX XS 2008) for Namibia at The Mission at Brouwersdam. After that: packing, some last gym-excercise and set the target for 40 knots at Walvis Bay!

July 2007
July had some good sessions, but not so many as june. I sailed on fast gear a few times, nothing special and learned a lot. But the best session was definately at Ouddorp 6th July. For some reason my mate Hubke was gone early (wonder why... maybe his marriage next day). Luckily Arnoud came along so it was nice to sail with friends. I made two really nice jumps, really flying high after ages! The Search 5.0 was bliss on the old F2 waveboard.
Now finishing my job and preparing for Fuerte action time. Hope that I can find other GPS speedies at Fuerte so they might download tracks for me.

June 2007
June was good! We had challenging conditions both for Speed action and for Wave. I went to the sandbar at Ouddorp with Hub which was a nice session with 5,4m2 Search. The waves were not the most powerfull but nice to play in.
I sailed some times at Lake Oostvoorne, where it was nice but definatelly not fast.
The best speed session was june 26th at Strand Horst where I improved my Horst speed big time! Still not too fast compared to the top 10, but I gave all I had. Tried various new fins and improved my nautical mile.
At june 30th there was a second NSWO Speed race at Lauwersmeer. This time I wasn't going that well. There was forests of nasty weed under the shore were you had the flat water. Further out was only chop and I took a fin that was too small, so no good speeds for me and a 2nd place for me.

12th May 2007: NSWO Speed trials at Lauwersmeer

The day started with lots of rain and little wind (in the North anyway...), but in the afternoon we got the wind and the official 500m course opened at 1500PM. It was great to sail a 500m even though it was a choppy course and therefore not too fast. Most speedies sailed with 6,7qm RS6, so it was almost like a one-design class... Anyway, I did very good business over there! I won the race. I sailed both the Custom Mistral and the F2 SX91. The last one was the best choice for this day.

It was funny to see the difference between the GPS speeds and the video timed speeds... my GPS proved an inaccuracy of at least 1km/h...

Still the GPS will be my most reliable training mate for the future as you can see the impact of every little setup change.

Pics ...

April 2007

April was a dull month for me. It started in Gruissan without any wind during a week. At the end I drove to Almanarre and caught some wind. Furthermore, in Holland there wasn't too much wind or I went to the wrong places at the wrong time.

On 28th april Kim and me did a kitesurfing course which was very nice. But of course, afterwards I jumped on my windsurfer immediately to catch a great evening session at Lake Oostvoorne with 7.2qm RS6 on the F2 SX91. See pics.

March 2007

Great news: my regular shop Eurofun center in Rotterdam will support me with equipment. With their support I feel even more confident for this season!

March 18 is the first session with my new board (Fanatic Falcon Speed). It works right away! 74 km/h on the first run. Pieter Bijl was right in the Fanatic magazine! Going over 40 knots is so easy with it. My 5x 10s average is up now to a respectable 72km/h and my topspeed with this speed machine so far is 76km/h.
Unfortunately I had a crash so my shoulders feels pretty bad now... it has to be healed before the event in Gruissan!

February and March 2007

Still nice wheater, not too cold. On March 1rst I improved my topspeed again to 79.1 km/h in 8-9 Bft windspeed. The Tectonics 26cm Goldwing fin gave me all the speed and control I needed. 80 km/h is so close now!

January 2007

Relatively warm and very lucky to get some time off from my boss to go speedsailing. I have been to Herkingen now a few times and it went up and down. I was to light for the storm on 11th january, but it was still fun to be out there and try. Also tried my RS6 6.2 and 7.2 in different setups and conditions. Improved my PB's topspeed to 75 km/h and 5x 10sec average to 68+ km/h. So after all, January 2007 was hot!

December 2006

Still warm for the time of year with temperatures around 10 degrees. Unluckily not much time. One very nice side-off shore waveriding session at Hekje with Hub. Nice hollow waves and very strong wind even blowing me off the water with 4,5m2 Combat! Finally did some airs again.

A special month personally as my girlfriend moved in with me officially.

October & November 2006

The wind was up and down, with some good sessions at Ouddorp, Maasvlakte and Oostvoorne lake. Sometimes unlucky with massive waves at Blokken, but onshore winds and a session at Wijk aan Zee with small waves. With my new job with long weeks and shortening daylight period windsurfing only happened in the weekends. Also a nice friday evening session at Ouddorp sandbank... waves very small again.
Did a 70+ on my speed set again so that was nice.

September 2006

September started with a nice test session / day at Strand Horst on the 3rd. I tried my new fins Tectonics Goldwings 28, 34 and 36. They can go fast but need to be very powered up to deliver. Also tested my new purchase RS5 6,7m2 and happy with it. My speeds were not as they should have been today, but nice to have been there anyway. Over 70 km/h was very do-able, but I couldn't make it today... need a weight vest for extra board control I guess.

August 2006: Netherlands

So far a bit unlucky with both wind and waves or the combination...

The day after I came back from Fuerte I went straight to IJmuiden as forecasts were good! But there were no waves... Next day at Ouddorp Haven with weak Northwesterly winds. Monday evening 14th looked great and was great as far as waves are concerned: huge 3 m monsters at Blokkendam, but the wind was onshore. The wind was strong enough though for me on my small waveboard and with only 4.5 sqm Combat, so that was exciting! Hub and Arnoud were enjoying the big waves too.
27th and 28th I went for speed to Stampersplaat. This is an island in the Grevelingen lake and surrounded by wave-breaking dams. Sunday evening I sailed with 7.2 in weak westerly wind on flat water, very nice! Monday evening I went back after work and found much stronger wind, but very choppy watersurface... so again not very fast. Hopefully I can return here with my small board for better control in the chop and higher speeds.

Fuerte 2006: speed and epic waveriding

click here to read all about it.

21st June 2006: strong wind @ 't Flauwe Werk

At the longest day of the year it should be a long evening session... and so it was. 7 till 10 PM on the beach.

With the wind the current picked up as the tide came in. The waves were small and the wind was 7 to 8 Bft.

Tonight I tried backloops (none came even close) and claimed almost all my shove-its. The waverides didn't go too well as the waves were so light. Still tried a gu-screw and came close...

Hubke was claiming some moves too.

19th and 20th May 2006: storm over Holland!

Yeah man! Great wind reaches Holland after weeks of shitty weather...

I took a day off on friday (thanks boss) and started at Herkingen with a PR-attempt ... and did it! 74.3km/h topspeed, so 75 is coming closer.
It was a great highwind session with 5.4qm sail and small board and fin. It was challenging to avoid sailing into the floating weed.
After the speed-session I went for a superb wave session with my mates Hub and Arnoud at Ouddorp ('t Flauwe Werk). Wind reached 9 Bft (and even 10 in the gusts) and my Combat 4.5 proved to be a very good sail! Waves were absolutely perfect and wind kicked in side-off. I made airials, hard top turns and slided over the lip some times, absolutely quality time!
Saturday I went for a short speed-session @ Herkingen again with friends Job, Rob and more from the surfclub. Speed was great again (top 72.5) because i finally know the correct settings for my equipment.
Hope for many more of these memorable sessions to come in the future!

7th till 17th april 2006 NK&BK Speed @ Gruissan

A very nice event. The wind was good for a speed event! Monday and tuesday 25 to 45 knots, wednesday 20 to 30 knots offshore winds and flattish water. I improved my 500m speed big time! Over 63km/h average when the winds swung a little broad on the course in the last heat. My overal results are poor because i didn't find the correct settings and made some mistakes. click here to see pics.

1st and 2nd april 2006 Herkingen

Yes! On saturday I set my new topspeed record at 71 km/h and had to interrupt the turbo-boost acceleration because of the little room downwind... so in similar winds i expect even higher speeds! The medium kit (SX91 and RS5 6.2) was perfectly in control on the flat water and screaming for more! Only a pitty i had to call it a day because of other obligations. After all a great training session for Gruissan.

Sunday i went to the same spot but had to take care of the Rookies of the club, so good time for freeriding. At the same time other speedies were sailing PR's downwind behind the dam.

28th march 2006 Herkingen

After all a nice evening session on the speed combos. First with medium wind kit (SX91 and 6.2), but the wind dropped... DAMN. So i rigged lightwind kit (SX106 and 7.2) and was powered up again. Speeds still not spectacular, but very nice to sail here!
Buddies Joost and Sander were sailing their freestyle kits downwind doing spocks, grubby's and loops.

26th march 2006 Ouddorp - Brouwersdam

First Hub and me started at Ouddorp 't Hekje in small waves. I did a serious forward attempt! Due to the fog the wind dropped so we moved to Brouwersdam. Arnoud and Mario joined in.

17th march 2006 Ouddorp Haven

An unexpected afternoon session at this speedspot. A nice lightwind session in sunny weather.

25th and 26th february 2006 Le Dossen Bretagne

Hungry for waves and warmer temperatures I deceided to drive all the 1000km to Bretagne. It was a nice search for good conditions, but way too cold. Saturday afternoon I surfed for half an hour at Les Amiets in little funwaves, but it was way too cold with windchill! Sunday I sailed at Le Dossen together with some French speedies. It was quite fun, but became boring as there were no waves at all! Next time more luck...

20th february 2006 Ouddorp Haven: cold low speed session

Excellent speed conditions, despite freezing temperatures! My arms were cramping from the cold. I wasn't confident I could hold on to the boom when going extreme downwind... that makes the topspeed so low.
Today I was on totally new kit: F2 SX91 and NP RS5 6.2m2. The equipment feels great on the water, now it's time for fine-tuning as the speeds were low... only 62.5 km/h top on flat water and totally powered up.
I feel very confident for  this year with such good equipment.

10th december 2005 till 15th january 2006 Capetown

Excellent holiday! Relaxing, riding good waves, cheap but good life and going out... need i say more?

Click to find out more...

I met great people from all over the world. It is interesting to find out how other people live and think!

Today it's 19th january 2006 and it's very cold in Holland!

3rd december Wijk aan Zee

Last session in Dutch cold and what a session!

The waves were absolutely perfect clean walls, just the wind was kind of lost...

The wind was forecasted to turn to SSW, but it stayed SE.

I used my Freewave 96 and the Search 5,8m2, the perfect set for these side-offshore conditions.

Hub and Arnoud were struggling to float out on their small boards while I was making one waveride after another with up to six bottomturns on a wave.

6th november 2005 Wijk aan Zee

Wow, this is one of the best days for me this year for waveriding!

I was first on the spot and on the water in the morning with 5.8 Search and the Freewave 96.

First, the wind was merely enough for floating out and doing waverides on the way back to the beach, but later the wind picked up a bit to around 18 knots. The waves were absolutely perfect in the beginning when the wind was so light: nice and clean long walls of about 2 and a half metres height max.

I enjoyed the great waveriding conditions for about an hour before the were more windsurfers on the water, so i had enough practice quality time!

When the wind picked up i made some high jumps and tried airs, but nothing special. Today was just for enjoying pure waveriding. Tsjaka!

25th october 2005 Herkingen Harbour

Speedsailing challenge in a strong southwester! Today I made my target of 70 km/h as a topspeed! Great!
First i went out on the small board with the RS3 6.2m2 sail, but after getting too much wind i changed it for 5.4m2 RS5. It was the first time i used this sail, so had to do a lot of tuning. After a few runs i got the feeling and the gusts and did over 70. I feel with better tuning i will have more control and a higher speed is within my reach! Also a more constant run is important as i would like to compete in more speed events...

24th october 2005 Scheveningen

Finally a moderate southwester again!

After working for half a day i went to Scheveningen and sailed for over 3 hours with 5.8m2 and the Freewave 96. The waves only picked up slowly, but were getting better and better! I did nice waverides again and also some jumping.

22nd october 2005 Ouddorp Flauwe Werk

Finally a southwest wind and perfect waves!

The waves were really good for waveriding and airs, however the wind was extremely light... just enough for floating out.

I used 5.8m2 Search on the Freewave 96 and hit some lips. Good fun session in the early morning.

16th october 2005 Oostvoorne

Light wind dissaster... the forecast predicted around 15 knots, but the actual wind stayed far behind. Still I planed. It was a nice and sunny day with friends from the surfclub.

1rst october 2005 Ouddorp Flauwe Werk

Early morning session with moderate WNW wind. This time it was very choppy and onshore wind and the wind just too light. I claimed one shove-it and a duckgybe, the rest was just bumping around... so time to quit and go home.

30th september 2005 Ouddorp

In the early evening I planned a short session at the sand bar and start from the Lighthouse. After work I rushed there and just rigged my 5.8 on the FW96 as a guess. Maybe the wind would be too strong at the sandbar, ro maybe just OK...

It was OK with cross offshore wind from the south! Unfortunately the waves were very low and powerless... and the wind gusty at the sandbar. But still a very nice session at a very remote and special spot!

17th september 2005 Maasvlakte Blokken

The wind had totally disappeared, but not the waves. I peddled for hours and caught many waves. Even made my best waveride ever! Hub joined later that morning and I even tried his board (Surfactory 7,8"). I managed to stand on it a few times, so it is quite an easy board!

Things got really exciting when Hub's leash broke right in front of some stones and wooden pillars. Two other surfers rescued his new board from getting smashed.

16th september 2005 Maasvlakte Blokken

Late afternoon session after having sailed at Ouddorp Haven. When I arrived at Blokken it was looking damn near perfect! The wind was cross-offshore from the right and the waves were looking perfect for some good action. I rigged my 5.0m2 as fast as possible and went out on my small waveboard (F2). For riding the waves it worked out perfect, but after half an hour I was so tired of having to float out, that I took my big board (Fanatic Freewave). For planing out it worked much better and I tried and landed a few shove-its. Waveriding takes more attention as the larger board tends to spin out when I try to turn too narrow...

By that time Hub and Arnoud had arrived too and were rigging fast. We enjoyed the great conditions till around 8 when the sun set (Sunset Beach?).

16th september 2005 Ouddorp Haven Speedsailing

First time for me to sail this spot in rare NE wind. Also first time on my smallest speedboard and I must say it is amazing! With 6.2m2 and only 26cm fin the board planed very early and just kept accelerating in the gusts. Unfortunately the gusts were not long enough and strong enough, so no 70km/h yet, but I am getting closer with a 66km/h. Also a very good personal 500m over 60km/h! With the winterstorms coming up I'm very confident for the coming months to break the 70km/h barrier.

25th august 2005 Maasvlakte Slufter

In quite strong SW wind and with big-sized waves for august i went out on my Freewave with the 5.8m2 Search.

The wind was quite gusty and cross-onshore, later sideshore and there was very strong current. It was quite hard to sail and the waves went hollow sometimes... very exiting! I managed few frontside waverides on the big waves and that was just great! At high tide it got really messy and it was getting dark at around nine, so i quite. Just in time as five minutes later the wind picked up to 8 Bft.!

A nice wednesday-evening session! Also as a lot of friends were there too.

20th august 2005 Brouwersdam Mission

On saturday i went to Brouwersdam to have a look at the event The Mission (Fanatic/Simmer/Arrows/F2/Red Bull). It was great to see all those windsurfers compete in the slalom races. I was too late to suscribe, but still went to the competition area to have a look and to the party at night! It was great atmosphere! I sailed myself with RS4 7,2m2 on the F2 SX 106 and enjoyed it a lot! Did downwind blasting and speedsailing on the flat areas. Unfortunately there are no really flat parts in NW winds at the Brouwersdam, so speeds not that exiting, only about 58 km/h top.

7th august 2005 Maasvlakte Blokken

I decided to skip the USM at Strand Horst cause i feared bad winds there again. So I went to Blokken and was quite lucky!

Cross-onshore wind from right and waves up to 2 1/2 m. The FW96 and Search 5.8 got me planing early and allowed some nice jumping!

After a long time i claimed some nice shove-its again! It seems to work best with wind from the right...some waveriding backside and even frontside! A nice day!

5th august 2005 Ouddorp

Great wind direction (SW) for waveriding there.

The waves were pretty low (average 1/2 - 1m) and the wind totally dropped in the afternoon, but in the morning it was great!

I used 5.8 m2 on the Freewave 96 and had a great time doing waverides in cross-offshore winds even pushing out some small airs.

On the way out i tried some backloops but not very fruitfull...

31rd july 2005 Strand Horst USM

Totally crappy circumstances for the real speed work and for windsurfing in general...

But it was fun to see all the other speedies again and trying to go fast with 7.2m2 on the F2 SX 106.

Still managed to go over 60km/h few times which is fast for gusty light wind.

Also had to walk back a few times cause the wind dropped... and had to remove weed from the fin all the time.

22nd july new speed toys

I ordered a F2 SX 106 and a custom speed-slalom board (ex-H444).

8th july 2005 Maasvlakte

After I picked up my new 5,4m2 RS5 Speedseeker and rigging it... I went to Maasvlakte Blokken for surfing.

Surfing went great despite the very small waves (up to 1m). The waves were very easy to surf and enjoy and were even breaking from N to S (righthander...).

first weekend of june 2005 Strand Horst

First time for me on this strange spot!

For a start i took the 7.2 RS4 with a 30 cm fin in low wind, merely 4 Bft. With this low chop it's easy to plane early. The top speeds were not exiting at all because of the light wind, but still a few times 60+. As I can't be happy so soon i decided to give it a try with the 6.2 sail ... hoping for a few km/h more on the downwind reach! And already the first attempt was around 62! So it proves a smaller sail is faster on topspeed! However after a few courses i had to walk back for a while as the wind dropped...

Still a very educative session! I hope for flatter water and more wind next time, so i can go for my new PR target finally...

saturday 28th May 2005 Herkingen-Ouddorp

First I went to Herkingen for a short speedsurfsession in the harbour with 6.2RS3, Falcon55 and Lessacher 27cm Duo Speed fin. The wind was W so almost 90degree angle to the low harbour-dam... nice for some fast runs but unfortunately not for the real exciting speeds... still I improved my 64km/h record to 65km/h. Yeah! I only had about 100m to accelerate to this speed, so I see a lot of possibilities to claim some better runs in the future!

Ouddorp was excellent for jumps and waverides with perfect sideshore conditions! I used 5.0 Search on the FW96. It worked great! Early planing, stable sailing and still good control in bottum turns. The waves were only about 1m high but were breaking as lefthanders... one could really hit the lip! I claimed a few small airials and did some sliding. I sailed till about 20.00h PM till I was tired.

weekend 14th and 15th May 2005 BB-Maasvlakte-Brouwersdam-Ouddorp

Saturday during the day instruction day at the windsurfclub. Lot of fun!

Maasvlakte Blokken saturday 14th May . Evening session with 5.8 Search and FW96. Hub and Sharky were there too. It worked excellent! I almost landed only backloop-attempt. Lots of waverides in about 1m waves. Slow and low waves near the actual Blokken, becoming more and more powerfull towards the south. The waverides were not quite powerfull or fast, but still great fun!

Sunday gave much less wind, so i tried 7.2 RS4 on the inside of the Brouwersdam. The wind was too light, so not too fast...

Later i tried with 6.5 Expression on the FW96 and made a few duck-jibes.

In the afternoon together with Hub and Bet, I went too Ouddorp for waveriding (surfing) on the beachbreak. It was great as we were standing on the same wave. The current was unusually light unlike other times...

pics...

10th May 2005 Grevelingen at Brouwershaven eveningsession

I sailed with the Fanatic Falcon 55 Custom and 7.2m2 RS4. The wind was light and gusty, just enough wind to plane... only 54 on the GPS and that is far too little too make it nice. I want more!

4th - 8th May Clubweekend @ Edam

I sailed with several boards and sails ranging from the 11 on the formula board to 5.8 Search on the FW96. Claimed some shove-its again, that's always good! Also one onshore session at IJmuiden, not too special...

27th April 2005 Grevelingendam

I sailed with the Fanatic Falcon 55 Custom and 7.2m2 RS4. The wind was light and gusty, just enough wind to plane and the water was very choppy... 56km/h topspeed on the GPS is OK, but not special at all. Hopefully more wind and flat water next time. I want more!

28th March - 1rst April 2005 Gruissan: Belgian Speedsurf Championships!

In a relaxing atmosphere we had two days of actual speedsailing!

Although the wind was quite light for speedsurfing (around 20knots) and the course was not too much downwind, there were 4 heats sailed.

Most competitors used around 7qm2 sails and small slalomboards on the 500m course.

I used my custom Fanatic 55 with 27cm Lessacher Duo Speed fin and 7,2qm2 RS4. The first heat was the best for me with an average speed of 57km/h over 500m. Topspeed was still quite low, only 64km/h... But already, I improved my old record of 56km/h over 500m with 1km/h yet in much lighter winds!

The second day i sailed close under the beach like Ben and that was definately more exciting as one had to steer exactly through a narrow channel between the beach and a very shallow sandbank. I didn't crash there but at the end of my fastest lap the wind suddenly swung a bit, hammering me down...

The search for a more downwind course, flatter water and stronger wind is on ... I'm ready!

click for pics (thanks to Roger van Tongeren)

11th and 12th March 2005 Brouwersdam and Ouddorp!

The friday was the most windy day of the two. 7 to 8 Bft kicked in, so first I decided to seek some speed on the Grevelingen lake with 6.2 RS3-sail. It was just a little too much... Luckily Herr Lessacher himself let me try one of his speedfins, so that was quite a rush!

After a few attempts, I decided to go to Ouddorp Beach where Hub and Mario were already sailing with 4.4 and 4.5 sails... They advised me to rig my new 5.0 NP Search. For me the sail worked outstanding: easy planing, good control and light in the hands!

Saturday I went sailing on the lake again with the 6.2 , Custom slalom board and 30cm fin. It felt very fast on the downwind reach, despite the choppy water. Good for the self-confidence for Gruissan.

3rd march 2005 Oosterhout

A very dark day for me personally as my mum passed away at age 66.

12th February 2005 Ouddorp!

Saturday rocked! Strong wind in Holland, especially in the North. The SW-part was OK too, but with slightly lighter winds, only about 7 Bft. Still great for my smallest sail: Search 4.5m2. I sailed together with friends Hub and Sharky.

It worked out excellent at Ouddorp spot "t Flauwe Werk". At low tide there was very little current so enough power to plane easily and do some waveriding without floating off too much. Backside and frontside waverides went quite well, like jumping!

Later it became more crowded and with incoming tide, the current started up really strong, so enough for the day...

23rd January 2005 Grevelingendam

I sailed with the Fanatic Falcon 55 Custom and 7.2m2 RS4. After some start-up troubles (light wind) there was finally enough wind to plane and go fast. But nothing spectaculair and the wind remained gusty, quite light and the water was very choppy...

7th and 9th January 2005 Scheveningen quality time!

Friday 7th can be characterised as a SW-storm! Even a flat 4.5m2 Search was a bit too large...  The waves were great, sometimes up to 3metres and in lines! So quality time waveriding, but avoiding jumps for me as every jump was totally out of control.

Sunday started with very light SW-wind. So the best option was to go for the 6.5m2 on the Freewave.

It worked out excellent for both jumping and waveriding the big waves. Later the wind picked up really good and Hub was so kind to let me test his NP Combat 5.8m2. Wow, this is even better for searching the max! Great for planing, upwind, waveriding and durability! Unfortunately, the X-ply window offers less good view on the face of the wave... Hub was pushing forwards right in front of me, claim it!

have a look at the pics!

2nd January 2005 Grevelingen

Strong wind today, first for 4.5m2 sail.

Later I went out for some speeding with 6,2 RS3, the custom Fanatic Falcon and a narrow 30cm Tectonics slalom fin. This set of equipment works great on the downwind course giving good control and high speed! For the first time, I managed to make lay-down gibes as the board is most unforgiving in gybes.

18th December 2004 Herkingen harbor speedstrip!

It was amazing! The wind was not very strong (maybe 6bft in gusts) and still I could plane easily with 6,2 RS3, the custom Fanatic Falcon and a narrow 30cm Tectonics slalom fin... and f*ing fast too on the downwind course, however the course was no more than about 110 degrees downwind...

The strip is totally flat as a low harbour wall protects against choppy water in SW up to WNW winds.

I rigged the RS3 6,2 with full downhaul and very negative outhaul (about half of the boomlength sail-boom contact) for full power and control at the same time for the downwind course!

20th November 2004 Grevelingendam speeding!

The first time with my new speedsurf-combi. It takes some time to rig the RS4 7,2m2, but on the water... wow, you can catch up! The board is very fast and easy to control! Certainly gives me good hope for improving my own speed-record. Upwind sailing goes remarkably easy too, not bad at all considered the small 32cm fin... I still need to find the proper trim for the sail, but that will be fine.

Besides the nice session it is a very cold day! Only +3°Celsius in the rain... autschj.

13th November 2004 IJmuiden

Wow, great waves for waveriding ... gusty N-wind and up to some 3 metre walls! With some luck I caught the big waves already far out and then rode them to the beach all the way! Jumping was more difficult, but of course I tried backloops, unsuccesfull... Material: 5,7 sometimes overpowered on the FW96. Robo joined me on the water.

23rd Oktober 2004 Wijk aan Zee

Much stronger and better wind and some bigger waves for sure! Good time for some high jumps, however almost any jump or waveride failed today... too bad! Also the Naish Wave Challenge was held (i don't wish to tell, i ended last ... so i don't tell...), the organisation was giving its best however most contestants were not happy with the organisation. Anyway they did organize a wave-contest in good conditions and nobody else did, so well done folks! my compliments! Material: 5,7 overpowered on the FW96.

22nd Oktober 2004 Scheveningen

This day had crappy conditions in general: S-wind gusty and small waves up to max 1m... Or maybe Scheveningen was the wrong place for the day, however still a lot of fun slalomming and catching small waves between the surfers (sorry dudes!). Still managed to claim some nice waves and enjoy! Material: FW96 and 5,7 instinct.

10th Oktober 2004 Brouwersdamn Claim-time!

After a very late arrival, I started at the Scharendijke harbour in nice chop! It was blowing strong from the east, which is quite rare. It was great for sailsizes ranging form 5,0 up to 5,7 for me. First with my small F2 board and later on with the Freewave I had a great session! I finally claimed several good shove-its, about 6 out of 10, so reason to be very happy! I sailed till about seven with my surfmates Hub, Sharky and Mario. At the end it got quite fresh as the sun went away... check out the pics.

Oktober 2004 Brouwersdamn weekend with WSCBB (surfclub)

Along with the members of the surfclub, i spent a weekend at the Brouwersdamn. The wind was very gusty, so windsurfing was made difficult, but the nice atmosphere made it a great weekend. The Fanatic Freewave 96 is very okay for freestyle on inland lakes too! It planes almost as early as a true and larger freestyleboard... unfortunately i'm not very good at freestyling...

Besides windsurfing we spent time in the sub-tropical swimming pool nearby, playing football and going out in Renesse.

September 2004 Scheveningen, Brouwersdamn, Wijk aan Zee

Some good sessions at Scheveningen, again with some airial-time! At the Brouwersdamn it was damn busy, far too crowded, but first time since long with 5,0 sail again... windy!

Wijk aan Zee was just awesome... almost empty breaks and well powered, so it was quality wavetime! Great waves for jumping. A lot of backloop attempts, and a first ponch attempt... it can hurt! The Fanatic Freewave 96 proves to be really okay for waveriding too!

August 2004 Scheveningen

Some perfect sessions at the famous Dutch break, after work and horrible traffic-jams...

Evening sessions in SW-winds at high tide and waves up to good 2 metres high. Material: 5,7 and 6,5 on the FW96 and even some time on the F2 MP87. After windsurfing, also surfing the nice beachbreak brought a lot of fun! Not even the surf-crowds could spoil it! sorry, no pics...

26th July - 14th August 2004 @ Canary Islands Fuerteventura & Gran Canaria

One funsession at Sotavento with 5,0m2 sail, rest of the holiday with 5,7 and 6,5m2 sails. Two great sessions near Puerto del Rosario at Fuerte and one great session at Glass Beach (Pointbreak) with good waveriding in light winds. The Freewave 96 works quite well in the waves!

Two funsessions with Hub and Sharky at Vargas (Gran Canaria) were the end of a fine summer holiday!

The stay at Fuerte was in a great guesthouse Campo (www.naturalsurfcamp.com).

End of July 2004

Very proud to own a brandnew Fanatic Freewave 96 (2005 model)

2nd and 3rd July 2004 @ Scheveningen

Very nice wave-sessions with slightly onshore winds from the SW and good waves up to 2m.

Early planing and good control with my older (?) F2 MP Wave. The lightweight board worked extremely well in combination with my North Sails Instinct 5,7m2.

Some airtime and waverides make these days very good! And again some smaller off-the-lips...

Last weekend of June 2004 @ Brouwersdam

After a mountainbike session the water is calling for action.

The Neil Pryde Expression 6.5m2 proves again to be very efficient.

check out the pictures (many thanks to Bet)

5th June 2004

Neil Pryde Expression 6.5m2 2004 rig is very efficient! Excellent stuff with the X9 mast and X7 boom.

Early planing and good control. I could get into plane while other (lighter!) windsurfers used similar sizes!

CLUB-Weekend 20th Mai to 23rd Mai 2004 Edam/Wijk aan Zee/Ijmuiden

Thursday afternoon is warming-up time at the nice campsite in Edam (20km north of Amsterdam) using the Formula equipment on the IJselmeer.

Friday sailing at Wijk aan Zee with rare sideshore wind from the right (!) with my JP Wave 96 and the NP Expression 6,5m2. Nice session, but lot of current, crappy wind and almost drowning kite-surfers.... At night a short - but great - session by the campsite in Edam with the same equipment, working really well for some jumps and jibes! Get the BBQ started...

Now, Saturday was about the best day I ever had with sideshore wind from the right! Great waveriding and jumping session at IJmuiden. As I arrived it looked like really poor onshore session, but after some while on the water (with JP 96 & NP 6,5), the wind turned perfectly sideshore allowing some quality waverides on small waves (1m max) and my second airial-off-the-lip well-landed!!! Yeah man! This is great!

Unfortunately, my friends from surfclub www.bbsurfer.com stayed at Edam, so I had to enjoy the session with strangers...

Sorry, no pics from surfsessions...

Weekend 30th April and 1rst Mai 2004 Brouwersdam

Friday sailing (!) with 11 m2 on tha large Formula pancake. Good fun in light winds. Even saved a kite from drifting off to open sea...

Saturday late afternoon suddenly pleasantly surprised by wind. Easy to sail with 6 to 7 m2 sails! Good slalom and trick session with friends Robo, Siegi and Mayke.

see the pics...

18th April 2004 Brouwersdam

yet again... however this time wind some decent windforce!

sailing with 5,0m2 and 96 litres waveboard in gusty offshore wind was good fun. Sometimes the water was so shallow...auwtsj!

10th April 2004 Brouwersdam

Quite cold, but enough wind for planing...

Tried out a new sail and found out (yes again) that I really need to use high percentage masts and a carbon boom to do easy sailing. Using a carbon boom and light mast caused the difference between floating and easy planing!

Luckily, for light-weight sailors these expensive carbon rig components don't have so much influence on the sailing performance...

Sorry, no pics.

21rst March 2004 Scheveningen

Sunday was sunnier, warmer and far better then saturday. Winds were steadier (allowing 5m sails) and the big waves were still there from saturday! Excellent wave-riding quality time!

I claimed my first true airial -off-the-lip on a nice 2m wave, yeah man! What a rush and what a crowd on the beach that whitnessed it!

And many more good waverides, just aiming for some big ones. The crowds on the beach made it good fun.

Sailing until I damaged my sail, too bad... but still very happy with the time this day so far.

No pics, sorry.

20th March 2004 Scheveningen

Today was a very good windsurfing day at Scheveningen, Holland.

Strong SW wind and pretty nice waves for both jumping and waveriding.

Especially in the morning it was still very well possible to sail with 4 metre sails.

By the end of the morning the wind picked up fast and blew about all sailors from the water with gale force winds!

Also the waves grew during the day, from a big metre high up to about 3 metres in the afternoon! The heavy stuff.

Unfortunately no pics due to the bad weather!

Early 2004: this website goes life...
